frequently asked questions

What is the olly project?

The Olly Project is a collection of writing through personal blog posts. It is the physical hub of my mind-space, the place where I think things through, ask big questions, and struggle my way into living liberated. I especially enjoy writing about womanhood, grief, relationship patterns and pitfalls, and suffering.

When did you know you wanted to create the olly project?

I write to get through every hard day. I knew it was time to start publishing online when I wanted to reach across my own mind and into someone else’s. I know I’m doing the right work when I’m nervous to publish it; this means I’m really working with something raw, real, and important. Pouring myself out onto these pages has been the best decision I’ve ever made.

What exactly is your process to create your work?

I start writing at about 11PM and work through the night. I close my laptop after the first draft and go to sleep, the work humming away in the background. When I wake up, I edit, and then I publish. I’m working on being more consistent, and writing when I don’t know where to start.

Most of all, I write when I have a feeling that won’t go away. An anger that won’t dissipate. A sadness that won’t dislodge itself. A curiosity that keeps redirecting my attention. It is my body begging me to move through and move on. I do my best to listen to her.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Moving through hurt is such an essential emotional experience for me. Writing releases all that congested emotion and allows me to breathe freely again. So, while I am working on this project to share my ideas on the internet, I'm also doing it to further my own journey to a meaningful life of love and fulfillment.

Who has shaped you the most along your journey?

I've been shaped most by the people I've created family in - blood kin, romantic partners, friends, and mentors. Every relationship I've ever had has taught me something.

I'm easily affected by my environment and the people I surround myself with, which means that I have been shaped, molded, and transformed by many people. I am so grateful for their influence.

where do you see yourself in 10 years?

After finishing my postgraduate degree in England, I’d like to utilize what I’ve learned by working in my field. My continued education in anthropology has truly developed my passion for telling the stories of real people, especially those who are living out what it means to ‘live well’ in their bodies, and I want to continue my research in these areas.

I’m a storyteller and a creator and a crier and a friend-maker, so I sincerely hope I’ll still be doing all of those things in ten years.

WHAT'S THE STORY BEHIND THE LOGO?

In an average day, life may look and feel like a flat line. But when a trauma occurs, we take a deep dive into shock and grief. Slowly, we process the trauma and begin to heal from it. The dip-and-rise of the "p" in the logo is a reference to the beautiful resiliency of human beings after experiencing pain.
